THE PROBLEM
Abnormal is a high-growth, Silicon Valley start-up, and an early innovator in machine learning and artificial intelligence. The platform learns the behavior of every identity in your cloud email environment and analyzes the risk of every event to block even the most sophisticated attacks.
The Abnormal leadership team is composed of visionaries with decades of AI and ML experience, dedicated to delivering an exceptional customer experience. Their careers span influential roles at companies like Google, Twitter, Amazon, Proofpoint, Okta, Salesforce and Slack. Working with the VP of Operations and Finance, FV was tasked with developing an icon system to instill company values, and deliver a “well done” message in the form of collectible “challenge coins.”
But how do you capture all that future-forward vision in one little piece of metal?

OUR APPROACH
Think beyond the single coin and a single message, and create a visual language and a hidden layer of interplay.
THE WIN
With the five key values established, FV set out to develop a visual approach to creating a knock out 3D interpretation of each value applied as a coin. Considering metallic finishes, size/weight, embossing and enameling while building on the brand essence of simplicity and technological elegance, we developed a solution that created incredible single coin designs.
Five coins were created, each one representing a different company value, that would be awarded to employees as recognition for practicing those values. A hidden feature to the coins was that they each fit together like a puzzle, creating a full set that could be displayed.
We then adapted the coin design elements to create a digital icon system for use in HR materials, onboarding presentations and internal culture-building campaigns.
